These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply to https://getskein.ai and the Skein service operated by Artificer Innovations, LLC ("Company," "we," "our," or "us").
Please read these Terms carefully before using Skein. By creating an account, accessing the service, or connecting an AI client, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Refund Policy.
1. The service
Skein is personal AI memory infrastructure. It lets you capture, organize, search, and recall thoughts across connected AI tools using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Skein is a substrate for your tools — not a destination chat app and not a general-purpose file store.
We provide the service on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee that memory retrieved through Skein will be complete, accurate, or suitable for any particular purpose, and we are not responsible for outputs or decisions made by third-party AI tools that access your memory.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to use Skein. You may maintain one account per person. You represent that the information you provide is accurate and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
3. Your account
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account. You are also responsible for MCP connections you approve — including which AI clients may read or write your memory. Revoke connections you no longer trust from Settings → Connections.
Notify us promptly at support@getskein.ai if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Skein for illegal purposes or to store illegal content
- Store personal information about others without their consent
- Abuse the free tier or any plan limits (including automated bulk ingestion, circumventing usage caps, or reselling access)
- Upload malware, attempt credential harvesting, or probe or bypass our security controls
- Reverse engineer the service to extract source code or circumvent technical restrictions
- Interfere with the service or other users' use of the service
The restrictions above on probing or bypassing our security controls and on circumventing technical restrictions do not apply to good-faith security research conducted in accordance with our security policy published at /trust.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
5. Subscriptions and billing
Plans
Skein offers:

Annual pricing reflects approximately two months free compared to paying monthly for twelve months. Usage limits (captures per month, total thoughts stored, namespaces) apply per plan and are unchanged by billing cadence. Current limits are shown on our pricing and billing pages.
Payment
Paid plans are billed through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel. Prices are in U.S. dollars unless stated otherwise.
Cancellation
You may cancel a paid subscription at any time through the Stripe Customer Portal (linked from Billing in the app). Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You retain access to paid features until that period ends. Refund terms are described in our Refund Policy.
Changes to pricing
We may change plan prices or limits. Price changes apply to new purchases and renewals after notice; they do not retroactively change an active subscription period you have already paid for.
6. MCP and connected AI clients
Connecting an AI client requires your explicit OAuth consent on our authorization screen. The scope of access depends on the product version and your settings. You may revoke a connection at any time.
We are not liable for how connected AI tools store, display, or act on memory they retrieve from Skein, or for tool errors, hallucinations, or actions taken based on retrieved memories.
7. Your content
You retain ownership of the thoughts and other content you submit to Skein. You grant us a limited license to host, process, transmit, and display your content solely to operate and improve the service (including generating embeddings and extracting entities as described in our Privacy Policy).
You represent that you have the rights to submit your content and that doing so does not violate these Terms or applicable law.
8. Disclaimers
Skein IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
Entity extraction, search ranking, and MCP tool results may be imperfect. Skein does not provide legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Artificer Innovations, LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF Skein.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
10. Termination
You may stop using Skein at any time. You may delete your account from Settings → Data (export your data there first if you want a copy). If you cannot sign in, you may request account deletion by contacting support@getskein.ai.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service (with reasonable notice where practicable).
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date. Continued use of Skein after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. Material changes may be communicated through the service or by email.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the service shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in Washington, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
